IKEA Better Living is the easy way to make your everyday habits more sustainable – at home or at work.
Project Challenges
Ikea Better Living’s existing app design was not consistent with branding, usage of typography and colour as on their major furniture selling platform. Therefore, redesign existing UI was the main focus of this case study along with UX changes on some of the features. There were multiple problems found with the existing app design such as:
- Inconsistency with their major furniture selling platform.
- Different styles of buttons used for primary action.
- Inconsistant use of sliding menu style.
- Confusing use of filter icon, follow other user icon, member button.
- Unappealing display of impact statistics.
Solutions
As a UI designer to address the problems found, I used the brand color palette througout the redesign to provide consistency. Designed 2 card styles for various activities for which users can log actions and the challenges users create onto platform. New style of cards give app more structure and consistency. Additional set of colors and typeface “Antonio” was used to enhance the visual display of statistics. Responsive buttons were added as well to maintain consistant and multipurpose use.
Along with UI decisions UX decisions were made in this redesign case study such as: removing list icon to avoid confusion and redundancy with loggable actions on home screen, adding “Add/follow users” on activity screen and challenges screen to let user connect with community easily and making “Invite People” button primary on challenge detail screen to give easier access to comunity building.
